Three Assessors for Kabafunzaki Case

Kampala.The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court has appointed three court assessors for the case involving suspended state minister for labour, employment and industrial relations, Mr. Herbert Kabafunzaki.

The trio are Mr. Gabriel Obonyo, Mr. Joseph Wasibi and Ms. Flavia Kisakye. Assessors are lay men who follow the trial and then advise the court, in their opinion on whether to convict or acquit the accused person. However, the Hon. Judge may depart from that opinion,giving his or her reasons as to why.

In his plea before Anti-Corruption Hon. Judge Justice Margaret Tibulya, Mr. Kabafunzaki pleaded not guilty to charges of soliciting a Shs15m gratification. Mr. Kabafunzaki is charged together with his two aides; Mr. Brian Mugabo and a one Bruce Lubowa.

The Hon. Judge set August 10, 2017, as the date when the hearing of the case is slated to start.
